If you’ve ever been to a classical ballet and wondered what the dancers were wearing beneath their tutus, you’re in luck this holiday season.
In mid-November, Company XIV will bring its sultry “Nutcracker Rouge” home to Bushwick, debuting at Théâtre XIV, the company’s new permanent space at 383 Troutman Street.
Austin McCormick, a graduate of The Juilliard School, created Company XIV in 2006 and he continues to direct and choreograph the productions of the troop. “Nutcracker Rouge” has been McCormick’s greatest success to date.
“Our production is inspired by the original ballet and beloved Tchaikovsky score but conceptualized as a Baroque-Burlesque extravaganza,” McCormick said. “We’re thrilled to be welcoming audiences into our new Bushwick home…and will be pulling out all the stops to dazzle and titillate!”
“Nutcracker Rouge” is a mix of ballet, circus, opera, singing aerialists, tap dancing twins— with a lot more skin showing.
If you’re not titillated enough yet, don’t worry. “Nutcracker Rouge” sprays a whole lot of glitter and champagne around, too.
