On Tuesday, August 11, a room full of comedians will sit down in full character as icons from famous musicals and let the audience grill them until the whole thing falls apart. The show is called Musical Theatre Foolishness, and it lands at Eris at Brooklyn Comedy Collective at 167 Graham Ave.
According to a press release from producer and host Antoine Lee, the format takes the standard post-show “meet the cast” talkback and flips it. Comedians stay fully in character as Broadway icons, seated for audience Q&A, sketch, and improv. The audience asks the questions, the characters answer in voice, and, per the release, nothing is off-limits.
Lee describes it as part talk show, part improv jam, part fan-fiction fever dream. The night is emceed by a host billed only as Annie, whom the release calls your “unflinching, unbothered emcee for the evening.” Lee, who performs as @antoineishereforyou, produces and hosts. He pitches himself as a variety-show multi-hyphenate who can sing, riff, and run the room.
The lineup pulls from comics with screen and stage credits. Per the release, the cast includes Brandon Mohamed Ashe (Heated Rivalry, Comedy Central), Jobari Parker-Namdar (Three Little Birds on Broadway), Devon Arnold (Rap Sh!t on HBO, plus BCC’s Night of the Living Variety Show), Terrence Lambert (Rainbow Riot), Caress the Goddess, and Susan Calvacanti.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7. Tickets run $13.70 in advance and $18.99 the day of, through Eventbrite.
