Two people robbed a sleeping F train rider in Jamaica, and one of them punched him in the chest when he woke up. The NYPD is asking the public to help identify both, according to QNS reporter Bill Parry.
It happened just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 27. A 26-year-old man was asleep on a northbound F train pulling into the Sutphin Boulevard station when two people walked into the car, spotted him, and moved in, police said. They pulled his cellphone and wallet out of his pants while he was still out. When he woke up, one of them hit him in the chest with a closed fist. Both ran off the train at Sutphin Boulevard and were last seen heading up Hillside Avenue toward Briarwood.
The victim turned down medical attention at the scene.
The case is being worked by the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows and Transit District 20, which is based out of the Briarwood subway station. The NYPD released surveillance images of both people. Police described one as having a dark complexion and a thin mustache, wearing a black head covering and a black jacket, and the other as having a dark complexion and long sideburns, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt.
There’s a reward of up to $3,500 for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
The robbery happened in a precinct where transit crime is spiking. Through June 28, the 107th Precinct logged 28 transit crimes in 2026, up from 12 at the same point last year, according to the most recent CompStat report. That’s a 133.3 percent jump. Robberies overall are up too, with 73 reported so far this year against 47 a year ago, a 55.3 percent increase. Felony assaults dropped, down 10.6 percent, with 118 this year compared to 132 at the same point in 2025.
