A 21-year-old man will be arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a 7-month-old child in Williamsburg yesterday, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced Wednesday.
Amari Green, who is currently hospitalized, will face one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder in the death of the infant, who was struck by gunfire while being pushed in a stroller on a Williamsburg sidewalk. Police have also identified the driver of the scooter involved in the incident but have not released that person’s name.
“A 7-month-old child was shot and killed, caught in an act of violence on a sidewalk where she should have been safe,” Tisch said during a press conference at 1 Police Plaza. “Today, we are talking about stats, but this incident is a reminder that these numbers represent lives.”
According to Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Green has no arrest history in New York City but is a gang associate from the Marcy Houses. Police are investigating a possible connection between gangs at the Marcy Houses and Bushwick Houses, specifically a gang called M.O.E.
“We know that he is a gang associate out of the Marcy Houses,” Kenny said. “At this point right now, there is a gang in the Bushwick Houses called M.O.E., and we’re looking to see the possible connection between the Marcy Houses, Bushwick Houses.”
The announcement came during a broader press conference where Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and the NYPD released crime statistics showing record lows for murders and shootings in the first quarter of 2026.
“My heart aches for the parents impacted by this tragedy and all those across New York City who have reckoned with such unthinkable pain,” Mamdani said. “Every single child in this city deserves to grow up free from the threat of gun violence.”
When asked about potential retaliation following the shooting, Tisch said the department discusses shootings daily and redeploys resources based on potential threats. “Every morning, first thing in my conference room, we discuss — all the chiefs and I discuss the shootings that occurred the day before, and they discuss how they are going to redeploy their resources based on any potential threats of retaliation,” she said.
