Brooklyn Coop is celebrating its 25th anniversary with a free community event at its new Bushwick branch, featuring food, drinks, live music and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso as keynote speaker.

The celebration takes place May 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bk Coop Myrtle Branch at 1308 Myrtle Avenue. The event is free, with optional donations supporting the Brooklyn Growth Fund, which provides loans to small businesses in the neighborhood.

The Brooklyn Growth Fund represents the cooperative’s commitment to supporting local entrepreneurship. The fund helps provide loans to small businesses that keep neighborhoods thriving, according to the event announcement.

Brooklyn Coop offers an alternative to traditional banking by providing fair, affordable financial services to community members. Credit unions and cooperatives like Brooklyn Coop are member-owned institutions that often serve communities underserved by large commercial banks.

The anniversary celebration will bring together members, partners, community leaders and elected officials for an evening recognizing the cooperative’s impact over the past quarter-century.

Reynoso, who represents Brooklyn as borough president, will deliver the keynote address at the event. His office has been a supporter of cooperative businesses and community development initiatives throughout Brooklyn.

Attendees can RSVP for the event through Brooklyn Community Board 4’s registration system. The Myrtle Avenue location puts the celebration in the heart of Bushwick’s commercial corridor.
