Eric McMichael, 28, of Greenpoint, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for raping a 12-year-old girl inside her East Williamsburg apartment building, as first reported by BK Reader.
McMichael was sentenced June 25 after pleading guilty on May 13 to two counts of first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child.
The attack happened on November 6, 2025. At the time, McMichael was living in a men’s shelter near the girl’s building. According to prosecutors, he followed the 12-year-old into the lobby of her apartment building, grabbed her, pushed her into a nearby stairwell, and raped her before fleeing.
The girl was a stranger to McMichael. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment after the attack. Prosecutors said the NYPD identified McMichael through an investigation and arrested him the following day.
“This defendant followed and victimized a vulnerable child, shattering her sense of safety,” Brooklyn District Attorney Gonzalez said in a statement. “Today’s sentence and the defendant’s guilty plea ensures that justice is done, protects the young victim from the trauma of testifying at trial, and ensures the defendant is kept off the streets of Brooklyn and unable to harm others.”
The guilty plea means the case will not go to trial, sparing the child from having to testify.
