A mobile crane will close a block of Heyward Street in Williamsburg. If you park or walk through there on a weekday, check the schedule before July 27.
According to a notice sent to Brooklyn Community Board 1 by Dani Mautino of Valjato Engineering PC, Heyward Street between Wythe Avenue and Bedford Avenue will be closed up to three times a week from July 27 through October 23, 2026. The closures run weekdays only, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the notice says the road reopens when work ends each day, with no extended or overnight shutdowns.
The work is for crane operations at 682 Bedford Avenue. A 1 Iron Works NY Corp is coordinating the closures under NYC DOT Permit #B152026198A10, and the notice says the shutdown is required to safely stage the crane, run lifting operations, and keep pedestrians clear of the work zone.
When the street closes each week depends on the contractor’s mobilization schedule, which the notice does not spell out day by day. The document says certified flaggers will be posted under the supervision of the licensed equipment contractor to help pedestrians cross and let local traffic through where safe.
If you park on the affected blocks, watch for the signs. The notice says “No Parking” postings, obtained from the NYPD, will go up at least 48 hours before any closure to clear cars out of the work zone. The same notice went to the FDNY Bureau of Operations and EMS, the local NYPD precinct, and Community Board 1.
