The New York Blood Center says the region is in an emergency blood shortage and is bringing a drive to a Bushwick police building next week to help. The center has declared an unprecedented second blood emergency of the summer, with the regional blood supply at its lowest level since COVID-19.

The drive runs Tuesday, July 28, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Muster Room at NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, 179 Wilson Avenue, according to a flyer and email sent by New York Blood Center business development manager Shauna Lynch. The center is asking people to help spread the word.

To give, you schedule an appointment through the QR code on the flyer or at nybc.org. Bring a photo ID. The flyer says donors should be 17 to 75, that 16-year-olds can donate with a parental permission form, and that people 76 and up need written physician consent. You also have to meet minimum weight requirements. The center points donors to nybc.org/eligibility for the full donation guidelines.

The flyer says to eat well, hydrate, and show up feeling good and symptom free.

New York Blood Center Enterprises, the parent organization, runs blood drives across the region. The hosting site, NYPD Patrol Borough Brooklyn North, is the police command that oversees precincts across northern Brooklyn.
