Get stoked on life like Mr. White!

This week children went back to school (yay!), we voted in the primaries for Mayoral candidates of this great city (hey!), honored the sad anniversary of 9/11 (nay), some of us will be fasting for Yom Kippur (oy vey!), and some are anxiously waiting for the next Breaking Bad episode after that very intense episode (amirite?). But enough of all that mumbo jumbo. Here are our top music picks to let loose for this lovely weekend following an intense week.

#8 Doe Paoro @ Glasslands  (SUN 10PM-1AM, $10)

Doe Paoro is a mystical female artist to watch out for. Her whimsical, chant-like music is very CocoRosie-esque with lots of voxcoder and electronic flourishes. Head over to Glasslands and finish off your drunken Sunday Funday.

#7 North Highlands/ Eros and the Eschaton/ Cosmonaut/ Over Nights @ Shea Stadium  (SAT 8PM, $8)

If you saw Cosmonaut last Sunday at our very own Holy Smokes Festival and fell in love, then we assume you’re planning on going to this show. If not, head over to Shea Stadium anyway and catch them with excellent folk/experimental/rockers North Highlands. Celebrate those dog days of summer by dancing them away!

#6 Dope Body and Scout Niblett @ St. Vitus (FRI 8PM, $10)

For all you heavier music lovers – people loving “punk tactics – abrasive blasts, loops, yelps and shouts,” Baltimore’s Dope Body is playing at St. Vitus this Friday. Head over there and catch them stir up a mosh pit.

#5  Cat’s Meow –Take me to Church @Bizarre (SAT 10PM-4AM, $Free)

Every month, drag performer and personality Merrie Cherry hosts a party at Bizarre. If you’re a fan of drag, dance music and all things that glitter, this is the place for you. Especially if you missed Bushwig last weekend, come see this show this week at Bushwick’s hot spot.

#4 El Ten Eleven @Mercury Lounge (SAT 8PM, $15)

LA’s very own El Ten Eleven is coming to this side of the country to play for their New York fans. They’re somewhere between Explosions in the Sky and Ratatat with their ambient musical charm. Get your ass out there to see them play.

#3 Computer Magic/Heliotropes/Soda Shop @ Glasslands (SAT 8-11:30PM, $10)

Brooklyn’s Aputumpu is hosting their Break Out sessions on Saturday. Their headliner is Computer Magic and she’ll transport you to the 1980s in a note. Apparently her relatives are dancing in the video above. Awesome sauce!

#2 Empress of/Bueno/Celestial Shore/Teen @ Silent Barn (FRI 8PM, $8)
