Okiway, Bushwick’s colorful okonomiyaki spot, announced an abrupt closure last night on Instagram. The restaurant opened in July 2015 after a months-long sticker campaign that stretched far into Manhattan.

Okiway is closed !!! Thank you very much to all the customers , friends and family who gave us the support and happiness .

Okonomiyaki are sometimes described as Japanese pancakes and sometimes described as Japanese pizza composed of mostly cabbage. Either way, they were tasty. Okiway offered classic versions of the bar snack and punched-up fusion items such as the Mexican Osaka, topped with chorizo, avocado and cilantro.

They had a good selection of sake and small plates perfect for sharing with a big group. But as often as Bushwick gives us delicious bites, it seems to take them away in equal measure, too.

We reached out to Okiway for comment but have not heard back yet. We will update this post when we do.
