A two-alarm fire ripped through a two-story mixed-occupancy building at 590 Grandview Ave. in Ridgewood and spread into the building next door, displacing 14 adults from eight households, according to QNS. Council Member Phil Wong visited the site the day after the blaze to talk with the people who lived there and figure out what they need.
The FDNY threw everything at it. By the time the second alarm sounded, 46 units carrying 141 firefighters and EMS personnel had been dispatched to put it out, QNS reported. Nobody was hurt.
The American Red Cross registered all 14 adults from the eight displaced households for emergency assistance, which includes short-term financial relief and housing help while they begin rebuilding, per QNS.
Wong’s office said he is working with the Red Cross, the FDNY and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) to connect the displaced residents with city agencies and route them to whatever resources are available.
“Yesterday I visited the site of Monday’s two-alarm fire at 590 Grandview Ave. in Ridgewood to speak with some of the residents who were impacted,” Wong said in a statement to QNS. “We’re here to assist our neighbors as they begin the recovery process, and we’re grateful to our firefighters and first responders for their quick response.”
Wong’s office said it plans to keep working with city agencies and relief organizations in the coming days to make sure the affected Ridgewood residents get the support they need, QNS reported.
