Cops are still on the lookout for the man who broke into a Ridgewood apartment last week near an intersection where a large mobile police unit, which had been stationed for several months, recently left.

On Nov. 11 around 7:30 a.m., the man entered a residential building near Seneca and Gates Avenue where he kicked open an apartment door on the second floor. Once inside, the suspect encountered a 9-year-old girl and tried to put his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming, according to police.

The suspect then fled the location empty handed and there were no reported injuries in this incident.

The break-in occurred near the Seneca and Gates Avenue intersection where a large mobile unit from the 104th precinct had been stationed to “increase presence in the neighborhood,” police said. The unit left the post just a few weeks ago.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male who was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477)
