FORMAT, a natural and hybrid wine fair, takes over Honey’s in Bushwick on Sunday, August 9, pouring Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley bottles alongside DJs, burgers and a tattoo artist taking walk-ups all day.

The fair runs from 1:30 to 8 p.m. at the bar and winery at 93 Scott Ave., with producers pouring on the rooftop and the winery floor. It is the work of Emmanuel Muhammad, who runs œnology projects and Awaré, short for Atlantic Wine And Reparative œnology.

œnology means the study of wine: “ology” is the study of, and “œno” is wine.

“FORMAT is a party where you happen to taste a lot of great wine first,” Muhammad said. “We wanted something that took natural and hybrid producers seriously but didn’t take itself too seriously, Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley pours next to DJs and burgers, all in one room in Bushwick.”

The pour list stays close to home. Eight wine and cider producers are booked: Wild Arc, Accordion, Occam Fine Cider, Greenpoint Cidery, Wonder Werk, Field Supply, Vino Potable and Dewey’s. Lambert’s Beer and Juice Runners cover the non-wine side. Additionally, in attendance will be China Wine Club, pouring an assortment of imported Chinese wines.

Music comes from Babyface Gio, Omer Mil and a set billed as $$cab confessions. Food is by OhBoy. Other collaborators include Blip, Sunday Spore, Entermission Gallery, Cute Sips and Doodle.bby, who is doing tattoos.

Muhammad framed the fair as one built for the people already drinking this stuff around the neighborhood. “There’s a whole generation drinking natural wine in this neighborhood who’ve never had a fair that felt like theirs,” he said. “FORMAT is that: the producers we love, the people we know, and a room that’s a party by the end of the night.”

Tickets are on sale through Posh, and Muhammad said the early bird tier will likely be gone by the time this runs. Tickets will also be available at the door, and the organizers may offer a premium ticket that includes complimentary items to take home. Shine Small Org is the event sponsor.
