Detectives collared a 23-year-old man who allegedly fired shots on Myrtle Avenue last week, one of which struck a woman in the back, police said.

Gilbert Arciliares of Stuyvesant Avenue was taken into custody at his home on Tuesday night, March 7, for his role in the March 1 shooting along Myrtle Avenue near Knickerbocker Avenue.

Sources familiar with the investigation said that Arciliares claimed he opened fire on the street as an act of self-defense against alleged gang members who were pursing him.

The 43-year-old woman was struck one in the back by the fired shot as she walked past the Azul Tequila restaurant at 1429 Myrtle Ave. at 4:24 p.m. on March 1. She was brought to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in stable condition.

Arciliares was charged with attempted murder, gang assault, assault, criminal possession and reckless endangerment, police said.
