Now that the new year is in full swing, we’re ready to get back to the normal show/DJ/DIY/party grind. This polar vortex thing though (wtf?)…. a minor setback… to an otherwise out-of-this-world weekend full of excellent shows. Don that parka, sip some liquid warmth and git ready…

#10 Ijon Trichy and The Final Frontiersmen @ Skinny Dennis 152 Metropolitan Ave (SUN 4-7 PM, $FREE)

Who doesn’t love unwinding on a Sunday night with some feel good honky tonk and some spiked sweet tea? Williamsburg staple Skinny Dennis is the place and Ijon Trichy & The Final Fronteirsmen is the band!

Get your fill of up-and-comers at Palisades this Friday night!

#8 Dead Stars w/ Life Size Maps, Slonk Donkerson, Adult Dude, Washer @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar 65 Banker St (FRI 8PM, $FREE)

A truly Brooklyn experience awaits this week at the nigh bazaar, where yet again there’s a great free show amongst kistchy vendors and pricey gourmet snacks! The bands this week are of our borough, featuring fuzzy punkers Dead Stars and exp-rock-freaks Life Size Maps!

#7 Arto Lindsay, Jahiliyya Fields, Gut Nose, Victoria Keddie @ Trans-Pecos 915 Wyckoff (SAT 9PM, $10)

Whoa! Cool! 61-year-old guitar legend Arto Lindsay (The Lounge Lizards) will play at our fave experimental space in Ridgewood this Saturday. Don’t get too starry-eyed!

An awesome Saturday night full  of BBQ, Bourbon, and badass live rock awaits you at Bed-Stuy’s Beast of Bourbon!

#5 Steve Gunn, Alex Calder, Dom Flemons @ Rough Trade 64 N 9th St (SUN 3PM, $FREE)

Dang, it seems like just yesterday Rough Trade opened in Williamsburg, but they’re already celebrating their one yea anniversary! Go celebrate, their treat, with a free show from wonderful blues crooner Steve Gunn and experimental musician and Montreal-dweller Alex Calder.

#4 FUTURE PUNX / HEAVEN’S GATE / SURVIVAL / PILL @ AVIV 496 Morgan Ave (SAT 8PM, $8)

Dance alongside Future Punx and space out amongst Heaven’s Gate’s grudge fuzz Saturday at that new venue you just haven’t made it to yet.

#3 !!! @ Union Pool 484 Union Ave (FRI+SAT, $10)

!!! (oh come on you should know by know how it’s pronounced) surprised many with their weeklong residency at very mediocre music venue Union Pool. But we’re not complaining, because they are truly awesome! Catch them either Friday or Saturday for a mere 10 bones.

#2 6th Annual New Year’s Do-Over @ Alphaville 140 Wilson (SAT 9PM, $FREE)

In order to wipe out any bad memories lingering from New Years Eve, Alphaville is offering a clean slate. In what promises to be an epically good time, have another go-round at the first party in the bar’s coveted back room. DJs, music, surprise guests… potentially free high life…
