Don’t you know it – It’s time for our weekly events round-up!

This week: catch an album release show from Gemma’s Erik Gundel at the Windjammer, paint at a pop-up class hosted by Scribble N’ Sip at Til Death, wear your best garbage attire to Gutter Bar’s “Garbage Prom,” watch some ultimate fighting at Echo Bravo, hit up an art auction to raise money for a group called TREEage and ask some questions at an open-ended Q&A hosted by New York State Senate candidate Kristen Gonzalez that’s happening at Woodbine.


Erik Gundel Goes Solo With “Level One Mage”

What is it?

Erik Gundel is the quiet half of the Brooklyn duo Gemma, which put out an album on Double Double Whammy a while back. Now he has a solo album that’s coming out from a label called Dear Life Records and he’s playing it at the Windjammer in Ridgewood, where he’ll be joined by Gemma’s Felicia Douglass, as well as Matt Bachmann, who says he’s most well-known for playing bass in the Seattle band Mega Bog.

The Windjammer, 552 Grandview Avenue.

When is it?

Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.

How much is it?

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.


Friday, April 8

An Expressive Pop-Up Paint Class!

What is it?

No experience is needed to jump into a pop-up expressive painting class! Handmade canvases, paint, brushes, easels and aprons are all included with a ticket. Also for sale is tickets for “all-ya-can-drank vyno,” from an upstate New York winery called Bridge Lane. The event is being run by Sandra Kelly, who is behind a business that hosts these called SCRIBBLE ‘N’ SIP.

When is it?

5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. 

How much is it?

$60 for a class ticket; $15 for bottomless wine when paid in advance. $20 for bottomless wine on the day of. 

Garbage Prom

What is it?

Bands Big Girl, Groupie and Or Best Offer (formally known as Grace Ludmila) are playing a show at the Gutter, along with a surprise headliner. The people putting the show on, a group called Booked by Grandma, are telling people to dress up in their best tattered ball gowns or trash bag couture.

The Gutter, 200 N 14th Street. 

When is it?

8:30 p.m.

How much is it?

$10

A Q&A with Kristen Gonzalez! 

What is it?

Kristen Gonzalez is from Queens and is running to represent the new state senate district that includes parts of Ridgewood. The race is already attracting a lot of heat – Gonzalez got a ringing endorsement from a writer at Jacobin and has already been the subject of a hit piece in the New York Post that takes aim at her day job working as a product manager for American Express. According to her site, Gonzalez has signed off on agreeing with ideas like universal health care, universal rent control and public ownership of renewable energy makers. At the Woodbine in Ridgewood, she’ll answer your questions. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Saturday. April 9

UFC 273 at Echo Bravo

What is it?

Echo Bravo Bar is selling five different kinds of tickets for the latest big UFC fight – it’s taking place in Jacksonville and pits Alexander Volkanovski against Chan Sung Jung (“Volkanovski vs. The Korean Zombie”) – among other bouts.

Where is it?

Echo Bravo, 445 Troutman St. 

When is it?

8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

How much is it?

Tickets prices are as follows: $15 for standing room only, $25 for reserved bar seating, $50 for two for standard table seating, $100 for high-top table for four and $400 for up to 15 guests in a VIP section. Click here for more details.

TREEage Art Auction

What is it?

TREEage, which calls itself “a youth organization dedicated to fighting for political change and climate justice,” is running an art auction featuring art made by students, as well as art that was donated to the group.  

Where is it?

Mayday Space, 176 Saint Nicholas Avenue.

When is it? 

7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

How much is it?

$25 for parents, free for students.
