A new cultural venue called The Empyrean Club is planning to open at 421 Troutman St. in Bushwick in 2027, with its backers describing it as a destination that combines theatre, nightlife, dining and a private social club and will serve as the next home for the exclusive New York City production of the musical “American Psycho.” Independent reporting has described the 10,300-square-foot space as having a total capacity of 590 guests, including a 299-seat mainstage theater. The plans were laid out by Lyn Winter, Inc., the publicity firm representing the project, in a pair of media alerts circulated March 19 ahead of a private first-look preview held for Broadway, film and television figures that evening, before construction on the venue begins.
According to the firm's alerts, the March 19 gathering was billed as the first pre-construction preview of the venue and was anchored by The Empyrean Club's three managing partners. The firm identified them as Max Hunter, founding artistic director of The Bridge Production Group, who it said leads the club's theatrical creative and will direct its production of “American Psycho”; Lucas Katler, a two-time Tony Award-winning producer the firm said is overseeing the club's business and long-term strategy; and Jesse Singer, founder of the firm Neon Noir, who the alerts said is spearheading the club's architecture, design and experiential strategy. The firm circulated an exterior rendering of the planned venue at the Troutman Street address.
The publicity firm said the partners were joined for the preview by a roster of film, television and Broadway figures. Among those the firm named as attending were Mary Harron, the writer and director of the 2000 film “American Psycho”; “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa; Tony Award winner Duncan Sheik; and Julie Klausner, the writer, comedian and actress the firm credited as the creator and star of “Difficult People.” The firm also named David Johnson, whom it described as a producer of the “American Psycho” musical at the Almeida Theatre in London, founder of Act 4 Entertainment and a former senior executive vice president at MGM.
The firm said the preview lineup further included Tye Blue, an award-winning producer, director and writer it credited as a co-creator of the Off-Broadway hit “Titanique,” and Marc Bruni, a Broadway director the firm associated with “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical.” In its alerts, the firm framed the evening as an intimate early look at the venue ahead of its planned 2027 launch, describing the club as a new Brooklyn cultural destination.
