With Weekly Fundraisers, Molasses Is Taking a Stand Against the Looming Presidential Administration

One of Bushwick’s coziest used book stores/cafes/bars, Molasses Books, has reacted to the election of a conservative with a shocking policy agenda by announcing a plan to support progressive groups and organizations. All we have to do to help is show up and order a beer on any Friday night.

Molasses proprietor Matt Winn realized after the election that “what was more important to [him] was trying to consistently raise funds for the groups and communities that will continue to need support throughout the next four years.”

When the rolling support plan was announced, the first six weeks’ worth of donation recipients were outlined. But the events will continue indefinitely, and perhaps through the entirety of the Trump presidency.

Details regarding the upcoming donation schedule.

This Friday’s donation will go to Black Lives Matter, and the bookshop will be hosting a reading of translations starting at 8 p.m. featuring Lawrence Schimel, Charlotte Whittle, and Gary Racz, followed by a party.

Musicians, writers, and party planners, take note! Winn adds, “the hope is that with a tiny fundraiser happening every Friday, there will be incentive for folks that want to DJ or read or help throw a party or simply help advertise.”
