Molière in the Park is presenting free outdoor performances of Molière’s “Don Juan” at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park through September 27, BK Reader reported.
The staging is the Brooklyn-based theater company’s fifth-season production, directed by Drama Desk Award nominee Lucie Tiberghien and translated by Stephen Wadsworth, BK Reader reported. The company is presenting the play in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance.
The production combines comedy, tragedy and supernatural elements, BK Reader reported. The play follows Don Juan, a seducer who travels with his servant, Sganarelle, while confronting romantic pursuits, betrayal, morality and social expectations.
Keshav Moodliar stars as Don Juan and Alana Raquel Bowers plays Sganarelle, with Kaliswa Brewster, Kalyne Coleman and Daniel Pearce transforming into more than 10 roles, BK Reader reported. Drama Desk Award-nominated composer Johnathan Moore performs a live cello score.
Every general admission performance is free, though reservations are encouraged, BK Reader reported. The September 14 opening-night benefit was a ticketed event. Some shows have a waitlist, The City Reporter reported.
Evening performances run at 7 p.m. on September 22 through 25 and September 27, with a 3 p.m. matinee on September 27, according to Secret NYC and BK Reader. Secret NYC also listed a student matinee at 11 a.m. on September 24. The production explores mature themes including manipulation and moral corruption, and parental discretion is advised for younger children, Secret NYC reported.
Molière in the Park will hold its annual OneLove OneTheater Gala on November 9 at Roulette in Downtown Brooklyn, honoring playwright Lynn Nottage and filmmaker Tony Gerber with the Shoulder to Shoulder Award, Secret NYC reported.
Reservations for the remaining free performances are available through Molière in the Park.
