Jacqueline Woodson, whose powerful 2016 novel “Another Brooklyn” vividly evokes Bushwick in the 1970s, is scheduled to appear at Bed-Stuy’s Macon Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library on Thursday, December 15 with Jason Reynolds, author of the Bed-Stuy coming of age book “When I Was the Greatest.”
Woodson and Reynolds’ event is part of the schedule of Gracie Book Club, the citywide reading initiative spearheaded by the city’s First Lady Chirlane McCray; Woodson is one of the club’s three moderators, alongside “Delicious Foods” author James Hannaham and Guggenheim fellow A.M. Homes.
Attendees can expect the focus of the event to be on Reynolds’ book, which is the latest Gracie pick, but Woodson’s thoughts about subject matter are bound to be fascinating (in addition to “Another Brooklyn,” Woodson also wrote the beloved Newbury winner “Brown Girl Dreaming,” which also explores the joys and hardships of black childhood in New York City).
The Macon Library is located at 361 Lewis Avenue at the corner of Macon Street in Bed-Stuy, near the Utica Avenue stop on the A and C trains. Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m., and the talk will start at 6; an RSVP is recommended.
