Nowadays, the expansive outdoor bar on the Bushwick-Ridgewood border (and one of last year’s best new bars), will introduce a new Monday night film series along with a slew of other fun programming when they reopen on May 12th.

Owners Justin Carter, Eamon Harkin and Mark Connell are teaming up with Maysles Cinema (founded by the late documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles) to present a ten week outdoor film series beginning in June (film schedule tba). They’re also working with education hub Think Olio to present a schedule of Tuesday night classes taught by some of New York’s top professors.

“Even just having a place that is focused on food, drinks and hanging out has been refreshing for us, and sprinkling in the film and educational programming we’re doing this summer is allowing us to press some creative buttons that we don’t typically get to press as DJs,” Carter tells Bushwick Daily.

Not to stray too far from their DJ backgrounds, Harkin and Carter are also now headquartering beloved dance party Mister Sunday at Nowadays, meaning a whole bunch of New Yorkers will be descending upon the edge of Bushwick for the legendary all-ages affair.

“Let us take a moment to say how good it feels to know, after years of being unsure where we’d be from one summer to the next, that Nowadays is our home for years to come,” say the owners.

This season Nowadays will also introduce 24 beer taps with the focus on local brewers, as an addition to their full food menu (including the delightfully named “Nowadog”) and select beer and wine. Ping pong lovers should make it out on Wednesdays, when they’ll be hosting a weekly tournament.

Mister Sunday’s Nowadays residency was first reported by QNS.

Nowadays, 56-06 Cooper Ave between Wyckoff and Irving. Hours: Monday – Thursday 4pm – midnight, Friday 4pm – 2am, Saturday noon – 2am, Sunday 3pm – midnight.
