Residents of 67 Manhattan Avenue, one of the Lindsay Park apartment buildings in East Williamsburg, have had a sidewalk shed outside since the city first issued its permit on April 14, 2015, and the permit has been renewed every year since. No active sidewalk shed permit in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, Bushwick or Ridgewood is older.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, Deputy Mayor for Housing and Planning Leila Bozorg and Buildings Commissioner Ahmed Tigani announced on Oct. 19 that the city has about 1,200 fewer sidewalk sheds than in January, a decrease of more than 15 percent in 10 months. Two new shed designs, with angled roofs that let light reach the sidewalk, are on display outside Department of Buildings headquarters in Lower Manhattan. The department expects to finalize rules making the new designs available for citywide use before the end of the year.
