Nuestros Niños Day Care Center hosted a Community Baby Shower on May 16 at its Williamsburg location, an event the school said was aimed at connecting expectant mothers in the neighborhood with resources, educational materials and services to support the health of mothers and babies.
The event was organized by Nuestros Niños Child Development School, at 384 South Fourth St., according to an announcement the school circulated to Brooklyn Community Board 1, which covers Williamsburg and Greenpoint and forwarded it to community members. Iris Cabrera, the school’s director of administration and operations, said in the announcement that the goal was to support expectant mothers by linking them with services that promote the well-being of both mothers and babies.
The school invited outside organizations to table at the event, asking interested groups to make contact by May 5 so it could review the services they provide and include their logos on the event flyer, according to the announcement. Cabrera thanked recipients for helping the school reach families in need.
The baby shower comes as the Williamsburg center, which has served the neighborhood since 1973, has faced an uncertain future: the city’s Department of Education said it would not renew the leases of several community centers and day cares, including Nuestros Niños, according to ABC7 New York.
Nuestros Niños listed a phone number of (718) 963-2671 and an email address of [email protected] for inquiries, according to the announcement.
