Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani took a housing tour of Gowanus on Tuesday morning and held a press conference to make a housing announcement at Powerhouse Arts, the cultural and manufacturing complex at 322 Third Ave. in Brooklyn, according to a public schedule released by the mayor’s press office.
The mayor’s office said Mamdani began the day with the Gowanus housing tour at 8:40 a.m., an event the office said would be pooled by NYC Media and distributed afterward rather than open to the full press corps. The mayor then held the press conference at 10:30 a.m. at Powerhouse Arts to make what the office described only as a housing announcement, providing no further detail on its substance in advance.
The press office said the 10:30 a.m. event was open to press, that Mamdani would take questions, and that the press conference would be streamed live on the city’s website and carried on Encompass Port CTY-3653. The office said photos from the day would be made available through the mayor’s office Flickr account. The mayor went on to unveil what City & State New York and ABC7 New York reported was “Block by Block: The Housing Plan for a New Era,” a pledge to build 200,000 new affordable, rent-stabilized homes backed by a $22 billion capital investment in housing over five years.
According to the schedule, Mamdani capped the day with a round of television appearances. The mayor’s office said he was set to appear on News 12 The Bronx and PIX11 at approximately 5 p.m., on NY1’s “Inside City Hall” with Errol Louis at approximately 7 p.m., and on CNN’s “The Source” with Kaitlan Collins at approximately 9 p.m.
The CNN appearance was added in an updated version of the schedule the press office issued; the original advisory had listed the same Gowanus tour, Powerhouse Arts press conference and earlier television hits but did not include the CNN segment.
