Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani is scheduled to attend and deliver remarks at the New York City Police Department’s Sikh Heritage Day celebration on Thursday, April 30, appearing alongside Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch, according to a public schedule released by the mayor’s press office.

The event is set for 6:30 p.m. at Police Headquarters, 1 Police Plaza, in the second-floor press room, the press office said. It is the only portion of the mayor’s Thursday schedule open to press, and the office advised that credentialed members of the media should arrive and be in place no later than 6 p.m.

The celebration anchors a day of otherwise closed-press appearances for the mayor. According to the schedule, Mamdani is to meet with religious leaders at 7:45 a.m. and with Bank of America Chief Executive Brian Moynihan at 4:15 p.m., both events closed to press. An updated schedule issued by the press office added that the mayor would also attend the Janazah for Abdul Saleh at 1:15 p.m., likewise closed to press.

The mayor’s office said photos from the day’s events would be available through its Flickr account. The schedule, distributed for planning purposes, did not include further details about the substance of the mayor’s remarks at the heritage celebration.

The event went forward as scheduled. Mamdani marked Vaisakhi and Khalsa Sajna Divas with members of the Sikh Officers Association, telling those gathered, “Nirbhau Nirvair — without fear, without hate. Happy Vaisakhi to all.”
