Public Advocate Jumaane Williams attended a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the City University of New York’s SEEK program at 1638 Bedford Avenue in Crown Heights on the evening of Wednesday, April 29, according to a public schedule released by the Office of the Public Advocate. The 6:30 p.m. event capped a day the citywide official spent largely in Manhattan.
SEEK, which stands for Search for Education, Elevation and Knowledge, is CUNY’s longest-running opportunity program, providing academic support and financial aid to students entering the university’s senior colleges. The Office of the Public Advocate did not detail Williams’ role at the Crown Heights gathering beyond listing it as an appearance on his daily calendar.
Earlier that Wednesday, the office said, Williams spoke at 10 a.m. to the Manhattan High Schools Student Equity Leaders’ Conference at 76 Trinity Place and joined the Denim Day Coalition’s annual rally at 12:30 p.m. at 1 Centre Street, an event tied to sexual assault awareness.
The following day, Thursday, April 30, the office said Williams was scheduled to speak at a 10 a.m. hearing of the City Council’s Committee on Disabilities about his legislation on Tourette syndrome, held at 250 Broadway. He was also set to join Speaker Julie Menin‘s pre-Stated press conference at 12:30 p.m. at 1 Centre Street and to attend the Council’s Stated Meeting that afternoon, according to the schedule.
Williams’ April 30 calendar closed with a performance, the office said. He was slated to appear at 8 p.m. with Theater of War in a presentation of “Our Longing for Inconvenience” at 160 Varick Street, with the performance airing live on WNYC.
