A free World Cup viewing party will take over Corona Plaza in Queens on July 15. It’s one of five new locations added to Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani and NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn’s “Calles del Fútbol” initiative, which now includes more than 100 free public watch events across all five boroughs, according to QueensLatino.
The Corona Plaza event, at Roosevelt Avenue between National Street and 104th Street, opens at 1:30 p.m. with a live performance by the Queensboro Dance Festival. The match, listed in the bracket as W99 vs. W100, kicks off at 3:00 p.m. Hive Public Space and The Horticultural Society of New York are running additional on-site activities.
Calles del Fútbol is organized by NYC DOT, which has been converting streets and plazas into watch party locations throughout the FIFA World Cup 2026. The program launched earlier in the tournament. The five new locations expand it in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.
“One of the greatest joys of this World Cup has been seeing New Yorkers turn our streets into places of celebration, connection, and community,” Mamdani said, in remarks published in Spanish by QueensLatino. “From Corona to Kensington, these watch parties are bringing together neighbors of different languages, cultures, and backgrounds to share a passion for the world’s most popular sport. As we welcome the world to our city, we’re making sure every New Yorker has the opportunity to be part of this historic moment near their homes.”
Flynn said it has been “incredible” to watch “neighbors and their families come together on our streets and plazas,” and that the new events are intended to highlight “the extraordinary diversity of our city,” QueensLatino reported.
The other four newly announced parties include a Manhattan event on July 2 at Johnny Hartman Plaza on Hamilton Place, a Kensington, Brooklyn event on July 7 on Beverley Road near Church Avenue, and a Brooklyn Bridge-area event on July 10 near Rose Street. A full schedule of more than 100 city-supported World Cup events is available through NYC DOT and NYC Tourism.
