Con Edison restored electric service to 5,007 customers in the Middle Village section of Queens early Wednesday morning, the utility said, after an outage that began at approximately 1 a.m. knocked out power across a swath of the neighborhood. The affected area also extended into neighboring Maspeth.
Crews restored power to all of the affected customers by 4:30 a.m., according to the company. The outage area was bounded by 54th Avenue to the north, 62nd Road to the south, 82nd Street to the east, and 68th Street to the west, Con Edison said.
The company said the outage was likely caused by a failure of overhead electric delivery equipment after road salt made contact with overhead wires. Con Edison said its crews respond around the clock to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, repairing damage caused when snow and road salt mix.
The utility reminded customers that they can report outages and check restoration status at conEd.com/reportoutage, through the Con Edison mobile app, or by calling 1-800-752-6633. Customers who report an outage receive updates with estimated restoration times as they become available, the company said.
Con Edison said customers can also sign up for text alerts by texting REG to 688-243 and following the prompts. Information on outages and restoration times is available on the company’s outage map, according to the utility.
