Around 2:38 in the morning on June 19, gunfire went off inside the Brooklyn Monarch, a cavernous East Williamsburg event space that hosts World Cup watch parties, live shows and private parties. Two people were shot. The gunman walked out and disappeared into the neighborhood.
The venue sits at 23 Meadow Street, near the Bushwick and East Williamsburg line, and it is exactly the sort of room locals pack on a weekend. According to the NYPD and reporting from amNY, a 33-year-old was struck in the thigh, and a second man was hit in the left arm, hip and buttocks. Both of them made it out and got themselves to Woodhull Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition and are expected to survive.
The shooter walked out. He did not get tackled, and he was not caught at the door. Police say he fled on foot, last seen in a black shirt with the image of a shark on it. No arrests have been made.
