The police confirmed that the superintendent, who was found buried in a Bushwick backyard, was murdered.

Officials determined the death of Daniel Rivera — the 41-year-old man discovered wrapped in black garbage bags in a shallow grave behind 54 Himrod St. on Oct. 6 — was a homicide, police said Thursday.

Rivera worked as a super in three Himrod Street buildings and police hypothesize that he might have been strangled by another Himrod Street super who later buried him in the nearby yard.

Tenants in the buildings where Rivera worked remember him as a protector and a friend, according to a DNAinfo profile.
