Lots of great shows are going on this week in the neighborhood.  Here are some of the best to check out:

Wednesday, January 15

Shadow Monster, North By North, Desert Sharks, Lily Mao at Our Wicked Lady, 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday night’s lineup at Our Wicked Lady will help you get over the midweek hump. Expect some loud sets from the wild duo of Shadow Monster, who released a ripper of a record called Punching Bag last year, and Desert Sharks, who also dropped their scorching their debut album Baby’s Gold Death Stadium in 2019. Chicago garage-rockers North By North are kicking off a month-long tour leading up to the release of their latest record, Get Weird, on February 17th, and the incredible Lily Mao is set to open the show. 


Thursday, January 16

Barrence Whitfield and the Savage, The Gotham Rockets, at TV Eye, 8 p.m.

Ridgewood residents welcomed a brand new venue on New Year’s Eve called TV Eye. The venue is hositng their second official gig on Thursday night, so be one of the first to check out the new digs and enjoy raucous performance from Barrence Whitfield and The Savages. New York City garage rock supergroup, The Gotham Rockets, are also on the bill.


Friday, January 17

NYC Winter Jazzfest Marathon at Turk’s Inn

Catch a smattering of the city’s finest jazz musicians on Friday night in the Sultan Room at Turk’s Inn. The Marathon portion of NYC Winter Jazzfest is spread across several venues, including Music Hall of Williamsburg, Rough Trade, Brooklyn Bowl, House of Yes, and more. The lineup at The Sultan Room is stacked and features Big Terminal, Jessica Pavone, Wayne Horvitz, Sara Schoenbeck Duo, and more.


Saturday, January 18

The Wants, Grim Streaker, ESSI at Alphaville, 8 p.m.

Post-punk trio The Wants are set to release their debut album, The Container, in March on U.K. label Council Records. Saturday is their last show in Brooklyn before heading across the pond for a string of dates in the U.K., so catch them performing some new material before they hit the road. They’ll be joined by ESSI and Grim Streaker, who both released great new albums in 2019. This gig is present by Sweet Static, who are celebrating their fourth anniversary!
