Finback Sells A New Beer At LoHi For Cinco de Mayo Weekend!

What is it?

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo all weekend at the rooftop bar LoHi, with promises of tacos, music and the release of a new beer from Finback Brewery called “Catch the Light.” Fittingly, it’s a Mexican lager.

Where is it?

LoHi, 314 Scholes Street.

When is it?

May 5, 6 and 7. 

How much is it?

No cover. But they are selling beers. 


Friday, May 6

BierWax!

What is it?

Did you know that Ridgewood now has a new vinyl-themed bar? It’s called “BierWax” and its officially opening on Friday. They claim to have a library of over 3,000 of these vinyl records. To kick things off, they’ve hired a DJ named SUCE to spin their turntables. Craft cocktails sold include brands like Chinola and Symphony No. 3 Rum as well as promises of speciality beer on draft and in cans.

Where is it?

BierWax Queens, 1680 Madison Street.

When is it?

SUCE’s DJ set runs from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. BierWax’s hours are from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

How much is it?

No cover. 


Saturday, May 7

Derby Day

What is it?

The Williamsburg bar Pete’s Candy Store is hosting their 38th annual! Kentucky Derby Bash. This means you can watch the Kentucky Derby while buying tacos from a popup called Uncle Nik’s. The bar also runs a hat contest that in some way involved the bourbon-based cocktail most associated with the Kentucky Derby – Mint Juleps.

When is it?

The event begins at 3 p.m.

How much is it?

No cover. 

Canelo v. Bivol 

What is it?

If light heavyweight boxing is more your bag, Echo Bravo is selling tickets to watch this weekend’s fight between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol. 

Where is it?

Echo Bravo Bar, 445 Troutman Street. 

When is it?

8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

How much is it?

The bar is selling standing room tickets for $20, bar seats for $30, high-top tables for four at $120. There’s also a VIP section that can fit up to 15 guests and will set you back by $500. Check the ticket event page for full details.

Mummies’ Day!

What is it?

Ridgewood bar Flying Fox is giving away free cocktails to anyone who orders brunch on Mother’s Dar and identifies “as a mummy.” Take your mummy out!  

Where is it?

Flying Fox Tavern, 678 Woodward Avenue.

When is it?

11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

How much is it?

Prices at the Flying Fox’s brunch menu range from $15 for an eggs benedict to $10 for a “traditional fry up.”

Mother’s Day Brunch

What is it?

On the other side of the neighborhood, is Koko’s, which is also hosting a Mother’s Day-themed brunch that features the somewhat new restaurant’s take on Nikkei food, a Japanese and Peruvian fusion.

Where is it?

Koko’s, 588 Grand Street.  

When is it?

10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

How much is it?

Prices at Koko’s brunch menu go from $15 for their take on chicken and waffles to $20 for a plate of the Peruvian ceviche classic leche de tigre, which translates to “tiger’s milk.”

L.A.T.I.N. Punk Fest

What is it?

Ridgewood’s Windjammer is hosting a line of performances by acts that have names like Depression Tropical, Qlebras, Danza Azteca, Vindicta, Axolotl and Rebuschaos as part of their “L.A.T.I.N. Punk Fest.” The show is 21 plus, with proof of vaccination required.  

Where is it?

The Windjammer, 552 Grandview Ave. 

When is it?

Doors open at 6:15 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m.

How much is it?

Tickets are on a sliding scale between $8 and $15 in advance. $12 at the door. 

Retro Games & Vinyl at KCBC!

What is it?

Dawnstar video games and Wax Moon Records are running a pop-up retro arcade at the taproom of Bushwick brewery KCBC. Video game trivia will also take place. 

Where is it?

Kings County Brewers Collective, 381 Troutman St. 

How much is it?

No cover.
