Two weeks ago, we asked you Bushwickians to nominate your favorite local brunch spots in and around the neighborhood. In total, 16 restaurants were nominated. Phew! There clearly isn’t a shortage of brunch options around here.

Last week, we asked you to vote. And wow was it a nail biter. The first and second place restaurants, which you’ll find out below, were in a day-long battle for the gold medal. Every time we checked, it seemed that there was a lead change.

Largely due to yesterday’s battle, the total voting numbers were crazy high! In total, nearly 10,000 votes were cast. That is, by a long shot, the most votes we’ve received in any Best of Bushwick competition this year. So, for that, we thank you.

The runners up …

In third place, carrying the bronze medal, is Tabaré Bushwick, a local restaurant and bar that also landed runner-up spots on this year’s Best of Bushwick best happy hour competition and best sandwich competition. Located at 1006 Flushing Ave, Tabaré Bushwick has an expansive menu, full of Uruguayan brunch food, including the Chivito Completo, a mouth-watering traditional Uruguayan grass-fed filet mignon sandwich, topped with a fried organic egg, bacon, provolone, black forest ham, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, bibb lettuce, beefsteak tomato, Spanish olives and aioli, and Uruguayan “French” toast, topped with seasonal fruits and maple syrup, among many, many other tasty options.

In second place, with an extremely impressive 4,261 votes, is Sally Roots! Located at 195 Wyckoff Ave, this casual neighborhood bar and restaurant specializing in Caribbean-American BBQ is, quite clearly, a local favorite. During Saturday and Sunday brunch hours, Sally Roots offers three different bottomless brunch deals, with bottomless mimosas at $20 per person. But, at Sally Roots, people don’t only come for the booze. The brunch menu includes beautiful items, including pineapple skillet French toast, Jamaican shrimp fried rice, roots Benedict and more!

Drum roll please …

In first place, hoisting the gold medal with 4,364 votes, is none other than Father Knows Best (FKB)! Every day, this local bar, restaurant and community event space serves up tasty brunch items, including a mushroom hash, pilled up with crispy potatoes, avocado, smoked oyster mushrooms, arugula, pickled beets and toasted seeds, a slammin chicken sandwich, equipped with grilled rosemary and thyme marinated chicken, bacon, baby arugula, roasted tomato and chipotle aoli, served on chiabatta, vegan banana chocolate pancakes, served with a coconut rum sauce and topped with caramelized bananas and strawberries, and so many other amazing items. While the brunch is clearly loved, FKB offers so much more, including DJ sets, markets, and other events!

“Since opening in 2016, we have always strived to stand out amongst so many amazing places and institutions that Bushwick has to offer. We’re honored to have been voted as the best brunch among so many other exceptional spots,” FKB said in response to its win.
