On Sunday, two of Bushwick’s most popular tattoo artists came together to do $50 tats to help raise awareness and funds for immigrant justice and human rights.

Gnostic Tattoo’s owner Leaf Chang and artists Lina Hsiao and Chris Wednesday did predetermined food-themed flash tattoo’s for Food Flash, an event organized to benefit the Immigrant Defense Project (IDP) which fights for immigrants’ rights in New York City.

All profits from the event went to IDP, whose Know Your Rights campaign aims to inform immigrants of their rights and helps them deal with potential encounters with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

As we reported back in February, 40 immigrants were arrested in citywide raids, with one confirmed arrest in Bushwick of a 30-year-old man from Mexico. Since then, two other cases in Bushwick have been reported this year, according to IDP’s communications director Alejandra Lopez.

Workwear fashion brand Tilit hosted the event at their showroom on Grand Street in the Lower East Side.
