Get ready to put on your thinking caps, Bushwick. We pay a lot of lip service to the notions of housing and income equality, but solutions to the everyday problems of people displaced by our current economic system are difficult to come by. Mayday Space, a community space focused on social justice, will host a Citywide Convergence Against Displacement on Saturday August 20th to bring together people working to make NYC affordable.

The event’s organizers believe that “although there are dozens of amazing local groups and citywide coalitions fighting displacement, our campaigns and our communities can feel isolated from one another.”

The five hour afternoon event will feature sessions such as “Mapping the Movement,” which will help participants visualize options for collaboration between organizations and “Our Visions for Going Viral,” a discussion of how to bring conversations about people affected by the epidemic of rising rents to the fore.

Participants are asked to register here, and a donation of $10-20 is encouraged although no one will be turned away because they lack the funds to attend.
