St. Mark's Church on Bushwick Avenue Has Divine Apartments for Rent

Rent a little piece of heaven right in Bushwick!

Evan Haddad

If another career hijacked your priestly dreams, look no further than this divine two-bedroom apartment in Bushwick’s former St. Mark’s church.

The red-brick Evangelical Lutheran church and school at 626 Bushwick Ave., built in the 1890s, have been gut renovated by developer Cayuga Capital as part of their transformation of the church into pricy rental apartments. For $3,925 per month, this heavenly abode may be yours.

This floor plan spans three levels, all under the church ceiling. The main level holds the main room and open kitchen. A staircase up takes you to one of the bedrooms, and then a ladder from the bedroom leads to an outdoor space.

Turning this house of worship into an apartment building took more than seven days and nights. In 2012, the vacant space of the church was turned into an art and performance space which hosted a Rubulad party, aerial performances, and a Bushwick Open Studios party. When Bushwick Daily first reported that the church would become luxury apartments, developers claimed it would be good to go in October 2015, according to signs posted outside. It took a little longer.

Without the Nooklyn signs, you'd never know there are 99 units inside the church. Twenty-five apartments are still available to rent, ranging from $2,150 to $3,925 a month. God only knows who can afford them.
