Last week, we conducted the fifth poll in our continuing Best Of Bushwick series. You guys nominated 14 of your favorite pizza joints around the neighborhood, and we put them all into a poll for your voting pleasure. The time has come to crown the winner and it’s Tony’s Pizzeria!
Tony’s Pizzeria has been a family-owned North Brooklyn pizza stalwart for over 40 years. Tony’s manager, Salvatore Polizzi, says that the Knickerbocker Avenue mainstay has been thriving on regular customers and an ever-changing menu since the restaurant opened in 1975.
A vegetarian himself, Polizzi prides his pizzeria on having a vegan and vegetarian-friendly menu while always keeping room for pizza classics like plain, pepperoni, margherita, and buffalo chicken slices.
“These are all original recipes. We’ve been here for so long that over the years we’ve added new things to our menu to, you know, adapt to the [neighborhood’s] changing environment,” said Polizzi. “We have vegan options now. We’ve been in business for so long because we’ve always embraced everybody.”
As for the pizza, Polizzi says his favorite is Tony’s new pico de gallo slice, but since that particular pizza seemed to be flying off the shelves (pans?) I went with a margherita slice with garlic knot crust because I am nothing if not a sucker for pizza novelties.
Ricotta cheese, succulent sauce AND garlic knot crust? What’s not to like? Even if Tony’s is not within walking distance from your apartment, the restaurant has free delivery and a strong presence on Seamless, GrubHub, and Eat24, for all your late night (or early morning!) cravings.
So, if you aren’t already one of Tony’s Pizzeria’s many regulars, stop in for a slice at 443 Knickerbocker Ave. We recommend the buffalo chicken and the garlic knot margherita slices. Also, don’t forget about dessert! Tony’s also has a selection of amazing cookies, coffees and pastries.
