Bushwick Yacht Club is opening a one-week presale on a four-piece charity clothing collection Thursday, September 24 at 11 a.m., and 100 percent of the profits go to One Love Community Fridge, a group that runs free community fridges in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn clothing brand made the collection with local online grocer Farm to People and Brooklyn-based artist Fefi Castedo, and it will sell only through BYC’s website.
The collection is a T-shirt, a long-sleeve tee, a hoodie and a tote bag, listed on the brand’s collection page at $38 for the tote bag, $42 for the T-shirt, $55 for the long-sleeve tee and $85 for the hoodie. The presale runs one week from the 11 a.m. open. It is the third installment in BYC’s recurring charity series, an ongoing effort that pairs local artists with community partners across Bushwick.
The give-back works like this. BYC is built around a model where the money from a release goes back into the community, and for this collection all profits go directly to One Love Community Fridge. That is the group behind the community fridges that let anyone take free food, no questions asked, including one at 65 Scholes St. in East Williamsburg. One Love Community Fridge describes its mission as eradicating hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition, along with the stigma attached to all three, through work that centers access to fresh food, nutrition education and sustainability.
Castedo, a Bolivian illustrator and graphic designer based in New York, made two original designs for the collection. One is inspired by the local, New York-grown fruits and vegetables central to Farm to People’s model, and the second depicts young Brooklyn residents with local produce. The pieces carry the line “Support Local Agriculture” alongside the “Bushwick Yacht Club x Farm to People” co-brand.

“This collab, much like the brand, is about more than a T-shirt,” said Aaron Nessel, founder of Bushwick Yacht Club. “We’ve always aimed to put people over profits and this is another way to show that we care about doing the right thing. There are people that need our help and we’re lucky enough to be in a position to help them.”
Farm to People, the online farmers market delivery service based in Bushwick that connects New Yorkers to regional farmers and makers, said in the announcement that it is “excited to be part of this collaboration and support an organization that does so much to expand access to fresh, healthy food in our immediate community.” “Everyone deserves access to this kind of food, and community collaboration like this not only supports that work but celebrates it,” the company said.

Farm to People started in 2013 as a locally sourced online grocery service run out of Brooklyn, and delivers produce, local dairy, pasture-raised meats, bread and pantry staples across all five boroughs and the Tri-State area. Bushwick Yacht Club pairs its limited-edition releases with local artists and community organizations and directs the proceeds back into the community.
The presale opens September 24 at 11 a.m. Eastern and runs for one week on BYC’s collection page.
