What Do Vegan Food and the Winner of a Little-Known Cocktober Contest Have to Do with Bushwick?

More than you would think, it seems.

It's not Kikiriki Vivero, the live chicken place we covered a couple months back. That's for dam sure.

On Saturday, a Vegan Food Fest Fundraiser is happening in Bushwick to support Travis the Rooster — a "celebrity chicken" and winner of a little-known 2017 Cocktober Contest — along with all of his friends at the Catskill Animal Sanctuary.

Travis the Rooster

Held in Mayday Space at 176 St Nicholas Ave., the event brings a delicious educational experience with a host of plant-based enthusiasts. Guests will sample specialties from New York City's finest vegan restaurateurs, chocolatiers, pastry chefs, home cooks, and shops. All proceeds go to benefit the animals the Catskill sanctuary.

But the fun doesn't stop there.

The fundraiser has an action-packed lineup of activities, including Zumba, face painting recipe demonstrations, and a vegan cupcake contest. You will also enjoy complimentary pizza, hot bread, tasty homemade potluck dishes, and cupcakes made by the competitors.

Marc Wood

Vegan athlete Marc Wood will be there, too. He's "making compassion sexy," according to the event post, all while sprinting, biking, and swimming to raise money for animals.

Come on out and get your vegan on to show love for the animals!

The event runs from 12:30-4:30 p.m at 176 St Nicholas Ave. Tickets cost $10 if you bring a vegan dish and $20 if you don't.
