Tonight, Oct. 6, a promising new café and arts space, The Loft at Elsewhere opens its doors at a converted warehouse among the roaring trucks and factories of Johnson Avenue in East Williamsburg. Elsewhere, as we’re sure you recall, is a much anticipated 24,000-square-foot music and arts venue created by the star team behind the former Glasslands space in Williamsburg.

The Loft at Elsewhere is filled with ample light and a welcoming interior. While many finishing touches are being set in place,  the space speaks for itself as the open and inviting café with a box-mirrored bar, white vinyl seating, and wood finishes that are accented by broad-palmed laurel green plants.

Jake Rosenthal, co-founder of PopGun Presents, envisioned a space that would serve as a “day and night space for the music community” where one can meet new people, hook into some wifi, get some work done, and of course, listen to music playlists inspired by the performing artists at Elsewhere.

A menu is currently in the works and it will feature a variety of grilled cheese sandwiches, Oslo coffee and talks of food pop-ups are in the works for upcoming weeks. For those who are more interested in libations, a full bar with bottled beer will be serving drinks to suit every appetite and at generous happy hour from 6  to 8 p.m.

The focus of The Loft is, according to Rosenthal, to make it “warm” and to connect it with the Skybridge Art Space, which is also a part of Elsewhere, and which you can access via, you guessed it, a skybridge leading to the space. This white-walled gallery will feature local visual and performance artists. Inclusion, as Rosenthal noted, is important to Elsewhere’s mission and outreach is becoming a priority to set this venue apart as a true space for our community.

In the upcoming weeks, we are hopeful to see artists from the local community being represented on the walls of the gallery while The Loft serves up coffee, snacks and yet another space to enjoy all that Bushwick has to offer.

A community space for work, play, and all kind of hi-jinks in between. Think free wi-fi, Oslo coffee, small eats, cocktails, first to open / last to close kind of thing.
