Tappeto Volante Gallery is opening “In Case You Missed It,” a group show collecting highlights from its first five years of Brooklyn programming, at its Tribeca location on July 10, according to a press release from the gallery.
The opening reception runs from 6 to 8 PM at 4 Cortlandt Alley. The exhibition brings together twenty-seven artists who have previously shown with the gallery in solo and two-person exhibitions, including founding members JJ Manford, Jared Deery, and Elisa Soliven alongside Meredith Allen, Lisha Bai, Keiko Narahashi, and more than twenty others. Works span paintings, sculptures, drawings, textiles, and installations, the gallery says.
The gallery describes the show’s title as both humorous and sincere. Tappeto Volante was founded in Gowanus, Brooklyn, in 2020 during the early months of the pandemic, and the press release acknowledges that visiting the space there required a deliberate commitment many people never made. The Tribeca location brings those works to Lower Manhattan and, per the gallery, to audiences who hadn’t encountered the program before.
“In Case You Missed It” is the gallery’s second presentation at Cortlandt Alley since it expanded from Brooklyn. It revisits solo and two-person exhibitions from 2021 through 2026. The press release describes it as an introduction to the gallery’s history and a statement of the values guiding its program.
The gallery says the inclusion of founding members Manford, Deery, and Soliven reflects a founding principle: artists creating opportunities for other artists. Since its founding, Tappeto Volante has built its program around supporting emerging, underrecognized, and self-taught artists through sustained relationships, per the press release.
The gallery notes that the show represents only a portion of its five-year history. Spatial limitations at the Tribeca location made it impossible to include every artist who has exhibited with Tappeto Volante since 2020.
