Blakeman tells a Middle Village rally that polls showing Hochul ahead by 11 to 14 points are ‘phony’

"Kathy Hochul wouldn't spend $7 million in the last seven days attacking me if it wasn't neck and neck," Blakeman said Saturday, comparing his race to George Pataki's 1994 upset. Siena's poll last week had Hochul up 54% to 40%.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman told more than 100 supporters at Juniper Valley Park in Middle Village, Queens, on Saturday, according to the New York Post, that polls showing Gov. Kathy Hochul widening her lead are “inaccurate” and that the race is a “virtual dead heat.”

Surveys released Wednesday by Siena University and Marist University showed Hochul leading by 14 points and 11 points, respectively. “Don't believe those phony polls,” Blakeman, the Nassau County executive, told the crowd, according to the Post, and he said he would pull off an upset like former Republican Gov. George Pataki did in 1994, arguing that polls were “wrong” then as well.
