A woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on the Harlem River Drive on Sunday evening, and police are still looking for whoever was behind the wheel, amNewYork reported.
The call came in around 7:30 p.m. on September 13, when someone dialed 911 to report that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle on the northbound lanes of the highway at High Bridge, amNewYork reported, citing police sources. Officers from the 33rd Precinct got there and found an adult woman on the ground with severe head trauma, according to the same report.
A preliminary investigation found the woman had climbed over the barrier and walked into the roadway when she was hit by the driver of a dark-colored sedan, police said, according to amNewYork. The impact sent her onto the pavement. The driver did not stop and left the area, police said in the report.
EMS rushed her to Harlem Hospital, but she could not be saved and was pronounced dead, amNewYork reported. Her age and identity had not been determined as of the outlet’s report. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
