Shoppable Mural Featuring Items From Black-Owned Businesses Pops up on Grattan and Bogart

Have you walked by the corner of Bogart Street and Grattan Street within the past 24 hours? If so, chances are you spotted a colorful new mural.

Standing about 16 feet tall and 40 feet wide, the cartoon mural features tagged items, including a hat, a flower pot, a bag and more, which are all being sold by local Black-owned businesses.

Those strolling by can use their phone cameras to scan any tagged product included in the mural and reach landing pages where the items can be purchased.

The mural was paid for by Google and American Express as a part of their mission to promote Black-owned small businesses across big cities in the United States during the holiday season purchasing spree.

The Brooklyn mural was painted by NYC-based Filipina-American artist Kitkat Pecson

The seven Black-owned businesses, some of which sell worldwide, included in the mural are Aunts et Uncles, Lockwood, Hudson Wilder, Coming Soon, My Little Magic Shop, Trade Street Jam Co. and Chillhouse

Despite the mural being located near the Williamsburg-Bushwick border, none of Bushwick’s Black-owned businesses were included.

If you want some more local options, the website Black-Owned Brooklyn does a good job highlighting many local Black-owned businesses, although many of them are in Bed-Stuy.
