A neighborhood staple of rare beer, cheese, and meat has become the first of our favorites to fall in 2018.
Hops and Hocks, at 2 Morgan Ave., recently announced on their Facebook page that as of 8 p.m. on Jan. 14, they would be closing forever.
Since 2013, staff at this specialty shop educated us on growlers, gluten-free beers, smoked meats, cheeses, and offered us samples of brews we had never dreamed existed.
But the brews and bites — while delicious — were maybe just too pricy to compete with the Golden Bullets and deli sandwiches of places nearby.
Hops’ sandwiches started at $9. Pint-sized growlers of many craft beers often cost $6 and up. Going into quart and double-quart territory would sting you upwards of $20, at least. Not to mention the hassle/confusion of bottle deposits and returns.
We reached out to Hops and Hocks for comment but had not received a reply at the time of this report.
Whatever the case may be, we are sure that Hops will be missed by many craft beer guzzlers among us. We raise our growlers to ye!
