Our Mission
Since 2008, Bushwick Daily has served as Bushwick’s trusted source for local news, culture, and community information. We are committed to journalism that informs, engages, and empowers our neighborhood.
Our coverage prioritizes stories that matter to Bushwick residents: local government, community development, small businesses, arts and culture, and the issues that shape daily life in our neighborhood.
1. Accuracy & Fact-Checking
Accuracy is the foundation of our journalism. Before publication, all factual claims are verified through:
- Primary sources: We prioritize firsthand accounts, official documents, and direct statements from individuals involved in stories.
- Multiple source verification: Significant claims require confirmation from at least two independent sources.
- Document review: Public records, meeting minutes, and official reports are reviewed for factual accuracy.
- Expert consultation: Technical or specialized topics are reviewed with relevant experts when needed.
2. Source Verification
We evaluate all sources for reliability and potential conflicts of interest:
- Identification: Sources are identified by name and relevant affiliation whenever possible.
- Credibility assessment: We consider a source’s expertise, track record, and potential biases.
- Disclosure: When sources have financial, personal, or political interests in a story, we disclose this context to readers.
3. Anonymous Sources
We use anonymous sources sparingly and only when necessary to report important information that would otherwise remain hidden. When granting anonymity:
- The source must have direct knowledge of the information
- There must be a legitimate reason the source cannot be named (such as fear of retaliation)
- The information must be independently verified when possible
- At least one editor must know the source’s identity
- We explain to readers why anonymity was granted
4. Fairness & Balance
We strive to present issues fairly and completely:
- Right of reply: Individuals or organizations criticized in our reporting are given reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
- Multiple perspectives: We seek diverse viewpoints on controversial topics.
- Context: We provide sufficient background for readers to understand the significance of events.
- Proportionality: Headlines and story framing accurately reflect the substance of reporting.
5. Conflicts of Interest
Our staff avoids conflicts that could compromise or appear to compromise editorial independence:

- Any unavoidable conflicts are disclosed to readers
