What the reporting does

In April 2025 we told the story of Debbie Perez, a Bushwick shipping clerk living where she worked. Within 24 hours readers gave more than $9,000, and 280 donors went on to give more than $16,000. The story also brought housing and job offers.

In December 2024 we covered the Myrtle-Broadway fire that hit La Lupe and Indika House. Our reporting helped the owners get gas and electric repairs quickly, and the community raised more than $3,000 for the staff.
