The Brooklyn Public Library was set to walk Community Board 1 through its progress on the Leonard Library, the Williamsburg branch being rebuilt to become fully ADA-accessible, according to the Community Board Corner column by Dashiell Allen in the Brooklyn Grounds newsletter.
The library presentation was listed for Monday, June 1 at 6 p.m. A fully ADA-accessible branch complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the federal law requiring public buildings to be usable by people who use wheelchairs or have other disabilities. Older library buildings need new ramps, elevators, entrances and restrooms.
Two days later, on Wednesday, June 3 at 6 p.m., Community Board 1 scheduled its Housing and Public Housing Committee meeting on affordable housing. NYCHA and community-based nonprofit organizations were slated to discuss preserving affordable housing, and private developers and property managers were invited to talk about affordable housing in their own buildings and their future projects, per the newsletter.
Both meetings were set for 435 Graham Avenue in Williamsburg.
