A Dallas-based healthcare access company called VOZ Salud is now selling monthly healthcare memberships to Hispanic individuals and families across New York, with plans starting at $29.99 a month, according to a press release issued June 30.
The membership is not health insurance. VOZ Salud’s own compliance language states that the company “does not provide medical or insurance services but facilitates access to healthcare solutions through third-party partners.” Those partners are not named in the press release.
What members get, according to the release: 24/7 virtual urgent care, unlimited mental health counseling, more than 400 generic prescription medications at no additional cost, and the option to add dental, vision, and GLP-1 coverage. Enrollment is immediate. Members can begin using benefits the same day they sign up.
VOZ Salud cited uninsured-rate data in the release. According to the company, approximately 22% of Hispanic immigrants in New York City lack health insurance, above the city’s overall uninsured rate. In some Hispanic immigrant communities, the release states, that figure reaches as high as 55%. The press release does not cite the underlying source for those figures.
“Healthcare shouldn’t be something people put off because of cost,” said Carmen Konert, VOZ Salud’s Director of Community Initiatives, in the release. “We built VOZ Salud around the needs of Hispanic communities because we understand the healthcare challenges individuals and families face every day. Our goal is to help people get care before small health concerns become bigger ones.”
The press release also includes a testimonial from Luis Ramirez, identified as a Queens resident. “Between rent, groceries, and sending money back home to help my parents, there wasn’t much left for me,” Ramirez said, per the release. “VOZ Salud gave me a way to finally talk to a doctor without worrying that one visit would throw off my whole month’s income.”
VOZ Salud is backed by VOZ Media, which the company describes as one of the nation’s leading Hispanic media organizations. The New York rollout is described in the release as part of a national strategy to expand affordable healthcare access for Hispanic communities across the United States.
