Congresswoman Nydia Velázquez visited P.S. 116, Leadership Through Multimedia and the Arts Magnet School in Bushwick, in May to sit for an interview with student podcasters, according to her May 2026 e-newsletter. The visit came amid a funding fight: Velázquez has been working to block the Trump administration from clawing back $47 million in federal dollars already allocated to magnet schools across her district, including P.S. 116.
The recording took place in the school’s multimedia room, the newsletter said. Students asked Velázquez about her background, her role in Congress, and equitable education. They discussed leadership and public service.
The newsletter used the podcast session in its argument for keeping the funding, pointing to the multimedia room as an example of what the money pays for.
The newsletter did not announce a release date for the episode or say where it will be available to the public.
